Colombo, April 29, 2025 — Cricket fans were treated to a thrilling match today as Indian Women beat South Africa Women by 15 runs in the second match of the tri-series in Colombo. It was one of those games that had the right mix of tension, skill and drama – right till the last over.
Raval anchors the innings at the right time
India were put in to bat first and got off to a bit of a shaky start, with early wickets falling to make things a little tricky. But just when it seemed like the innings might not take off, Pratik Rawal stepped up and anchored the innings. His knock of 78 off 65 balls came at just the right time – he found gaps, rotated the strike with ease and played some beautiful boundaries, easing the panic in the dressing room.
Along with him, Deepti Sharma patiently kept the situation calm by scoring 45 runs while the other middle-order batters contributed with small but valuable cameos. In the end, India managed to score 276 for 6, which looked competitive but certainly not impossible – especially on a pitch that got slower as the game progressed.
Tazmin Brits shined, but South Africa fell a little short
South Africa were determined to chase the target and looked strong for most of their innings. Tazmin Brits was the star of the show, scoring a brilliant and confident 109 off 107 balls. She controlled the chase beautifully, combining smart running and clean hitting.
It wasn’t until her dismissal that the momentum changed. India’s bowlers saw their chance and made the most of it. The pressure started mounting, dot balls piled up and South Africa’s batsmen struggled with the rising asking rate.

Sneh Rana turned the game around
The real difference came from the Indian bowling unit, especially from Sneh Rana, who bowled brilliantly when her side needed it the most. She picked up 3 crucial wickets for just 35 runs, breaking South Africa’s momentum. She was well supported by Shreyank Patil and Rajeshwari Gayakwad, who bowled a tight line and gave away no runs.
With 25 runs needed from the final three overs, South Africa still had a chance. But India kept calm. The bowlers held their line, the fielders were alert and the boundaries did not come for South Africa. In the end, they folded for 261 for 9, giving India a 15-run win.
